Community Outreach

The Lower South Coast SPCA feels strongly that we can reduce the growing numbers of suffering animals through community outreach programs in rural areas where Sterilisations and Vaccinations stop breeding and stop the spread of disease!

Vaccination and Sterilisation Outreach Drives in Rural Areas and Informal Settlements:

The most effective way we can reduce the drastic overpopulation of cats and dogs in rural areas is to Sterilise and Vaccinate animals to stop them breeding and spreading diseases like Rabies.

We are surrounded by large outlying rural communities that severely lack any kind of Animal Welfare or Veterinary services. The populations of Animals in these areas are growing exponentially and with that comes the resulting current outbreak in Rabies because it is very hard to reach and vaccinate such a large number of animals.. Sterilisations will reduce population growth. Just ONE fertile dog can produce two litters of 6 to 10 pups in a year; that means that the female and her offspring can, theoretically, produce 67,000 unwanted dogs over a span of six years.

Our area is vast and includes the following rural and previously disadvantaged areas that will benefit from our Sterilisation and Vaccination Outreach Drives.

Our dream is to do a vaccination outreach and a sterilisation outreach once a month in each of the following areas, however we are in need of funding for the staff and materials to do this!
